Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), grade 2200. Water-soluble thickener and binder for aqueous anode slurries. Used with SBR as the standard water-based binder system, replacing PVDF/NMP and removing the solvent recovery step from electrode coating.

Specification

Property Specification
Loss on drying ≤ 10.0%
Viscosity (1% solution, 25 °C, 60 rpm) 1500 – 3000 mPa·s
pH (1% solution, 25 °C) 6.0 – 8.5
Degree of substitution 0.80 – 1.20
Sodium chloride ≤ 1.00%

A lot-specific Certificate of Analysis is supplied with every shipment. Values above are the product specification, not single-lot results.

Applications

  • Aqueous graphite and silicon anode slurries
  • Water-based LFP cathode slurries
  • Slurry viscosity control and particle dispersion

Choosing CMC

Grade 2200 sits in the mid-viscosity band at 1500 to 3000 mPa·s, which suits most graphite anode slurries. Higher-viscosity grades give more suspension stability at higher mixing cost; lower grades coat thinner. CMC is normally paired with SBR at roughly 1:1 to 1:2.

Handling

Disperse slowly into water under shear to avoid lumping, and allow full hydration before adding active material. Store sealed and dry.
