Cell Components & Assembly
Coin cell cases, spacers, springs, and gaskets; pouch cell films and tabs; full cell components for research assembly. The hardware is cheap relative to the material you put inside it, and it is the most common source of results you cannot explain.
Choosing cell hardware
Case coating has to match your voltage window. Bare stainless steel corrodes above roughly 4.3 V and reacts with lithium metal. Aluminium-clad cases for high-voltage cathodes, copper-clad for lithium metal anodes. This is the single most common cause of unexplained capacity fade in research cells.
Stack height decides whether your cell makes contact. Spacer thickness and spring choice have to add up to a stack that is compressed but not crushed. Changing electrode thickness means recalculating the stack - running the same spacer set across different loadings gives you inconsistent pressure and inconsistent data.
Gasket material is an electrolyte compatibility question. Polypropylene is standard and adequate for most carbonate electrolytes. PFA is worth it for aggressive solvents, elevated temperature, and long-duration cycling where creep causes slow leakage.
Buy hardware in one lot for a study. Small dimensional differences between production lots shift crimping pressure. If you are running a comparison that has to hold up, order enough for the whole study at once.
Tell us your chemistry, voltage window, and format and we will specify a matched hardware set.
