Coin cell stack order

A standard CR2032 assembly runs, from the negative case upward: negative case, spring (wave washer), spacer disc, lithium or anode disc, separator, electrolyte, cathode disc, positive case. The spring keeps the stack under constant compression as the electrodes breathe during cycling; without it, contact resistance rises and results scatter.

Why stack height matters

Too little total height and the spring cannot compress, so the stack sits loose and interfacial resistance climbs. Too much and crimping deforms the electrode or pierces the separator, producing soft shorts that look like rapid capacity fade. Aim for firm spring compression without deformation, and keep the combination identical across every cell in a comparison.
