Yttria-stabilized zirconia planetary mill jar, 50ml. The lowest-contamination ceramic jar available. Dense, hard and tough, with a measured iron content below 0.001%, so it will not colour or contaminate high-purity powders. The standard choice for battery cathode, electronic ceramic and optical materials work.

Why zirconia

  • High fracture toughness: far less prone to chipping than alumina
  • Chemically inert and non-porous, so no cross-contamination between batches
  • Iron-free, which matters for magnetic, catalytic and electrochemical measurements

Pairing

Use with yttria-stabilized zirconia media so that any wear debris is the same material as your jar and your sample sees a single, known contaminant. Mixing zirconia jars with alumina or steel media defeats the purpose.
