PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) planetary mill jar, 100ml. Moulded from a single piece of virgin PTFE, with no coating to chip or delaminate. The obvious choice when your sample cannot tolerate metal or ceramic pickup, or when you are milling in strong acid or alkali.

Why PTFE

  • Chemically inert to almost everything, including HF and aqua regia
  • Nothing sticks: sample releases cleanly, so recovery is high and cleaning is fast
  • Lowest coefficient of friction of any solid, which means gentle, low-contamination milling
  • Stays tough at cryogenic temperatures as well as up to 250 °C

Choosing PTFE

PTFE is soft, so it contributes little grinding energy of its own. Pair it with dense media (zirconia or agate) and expect longer cycle times than a ceramic or steel jar. For hard, abrasive samples where speed matters more than inertness, use alumina or zirconia instead.
